For a writer, this page is both interesting and funny. Advice from a successful pulp writer. Applicable to paperback heros, this formula could be applied to many genres. I think I'll try to apply it to a short story and see what happens. The site provides a host of information about the 1930's. Worth exploring if you're interested in that period.
